Monday 2011 Prisoner’s Base & More

Today was our first full day of camp. The weather has cooled down about 10 degrees and campers’ spirits are high. This morning the first teaching was given by Fr. James Ellison on “What is Good?”, and the second teaching block was reserved for “bishop in the hotseat” featuring Bishop Nathaniel. Both teachings were very informative and the campers were engaged and attentive. Counseling groups got officially underway, during which campers were able to discuss the teachings and anything else on their minds in a smaller group setting.

Prisoner’s Base

Last night we had a lovely dinner of penne alfredo, green beans, breadsticks, and dirt pudding, followed by praise time and an all-camp game of Prisoner’s Base, which could be explained as a hybrid of tag and capture the flag. After the game the campers had delicious water melon, lots of H20, and gave a few interviews about their experience. Here is a smattering of videos from last night, including praise time, several live-action Prisoner’s Base clips, and finally one of the post-game interviews. Hopefully we’ll get audio from the teachings up later today.

Archbishop Job Arrives And Prisoners Are Captured!

Monday was a day of beautiful weather, great teachings, canoe trip water balloon bombings, and a whole lotta Prisoner’s Base. Seriously, there really was a lot of Prisoner’s Base. We skipped the campfire in favor of playing more. Daylight Savings Time will do that to you. We told everyone not to worry because we will have a campfire after our prayer walk on Thursday.

Our praise band is growing by the day. We have 3 bass players, including a classical stand-up bass. We also have a cello and a violin, along with the usual djembe drum, guitars, shakers, and tambourines. It is quite a beautiful sight (and sound!) and we will post some pictures from it possibly tomorrow. It should also be on this years’ camp video.

We had no problems with any campers on Monday and everyone is beginning to open up and get along very nicely. Archbishop Job and Rdr. Joshua Coolman showed up around dinner time and are staying with us until Tuesday evening. It is an honor to have had 5 priests/archbishops with us so far and it’s only the first full-length day!
