Monday 2011 Prisoner's Base & More
Today was our first full day of camp. The weather has cooled down about 10 degrees and campers’ spirits are high. This morning the first teaching was given by Fr. James Ellison on “What is Good?”, and the second teaching block was reserved for “bishop in the hotseat” featuring Bishop Nathaniel. Both teachings were very informative and the campers were engaged and attentive. Counseling groups got officially underway, during which campers were able to discuss the teachings and anything else on their minds in a smaller group setting.

First Night of Summer Camp 2011
This has already been a great year so far, and it’s only the end of the first night. It’s weird having over 100 people here – weird in a good way! There are so many new faces and so much anticipation for a great week. Here are some videos from the first night of camp. Make sure you watch Josh Clemens get a plate of whipped cream to the face. You can always count on Assistant Director Tim Barnes to head up registration and make both new and veteran campers alike feel welcome and wanted at camp. In this clip, … Continue reading
Strangely Protected From The Weather
Campers are arriving – that means Summer Camp 2011 has officially begun! And right as a weather system is moving into the area. A nice storm front has quickly cooled things down from the mid 90s to the mid 80s – and those 10 degrees make all the difference. We’ve been keeping an eye on the front here at the command center in the staff cabin, and we noticed a weird phenomenon in the weather pattern. Just take a look at the video.
Pre-camp Shopping Trip
Reid Broadstreet, Joel Becker, and Luke Beecham display their cart items at the local Walmart during our last-minute shopping trip. Included: tiki torches, watermelons, and citronella candles, among other camp-related things. Camper ETA: 4 hours. Yikes! We better get back to the campground… (click thru for vid)
Summer Camp 2011 Staff Night
Camp has officially begun for the staff! Today we arrived around 2pm and had our pre-camp meeting in the coolness of the air-conditioned cafeteria. After Edna’s pizza and Small Compline, we headed to the (hot) pool for some evening swim time. The heat was a little unbearable so we had a little time to just hang out in our cabins. In the staff cabin we decided to run through some new songs we’re teaching this year, so we had Emily Farison with the violin in our company. Here’s a clip of Joel Wilson, Tim Barnes, and Luke Beecham listening to … Continue reading
We Have Hit 100!
We have hit the 100 mark! We currently have 70 campers registered (last year we only had 47!!) and 30 staffers. It’s been a LONG time since we had 100 people at camp. In fact, this year will be the first year in over a decade that we will be holding worship services in the basement of the Bloomington House, since we won’t be able to fit in Old Bethel. That’s sort of sad since a lot of campers will miss the nice, stoic, rustic feel of the 100-year-old chapel. However, most campers don’t remember when we used to do … Continue reading
