Summer Camp 2007 has officially begun and it couldn’t have started more smoothly. After a day and night of preparation, the staff was more than ready to meet and greet their campers-to-be, some of them familiar and others brand new to beautiful Camp Rivervale.
Meet your staff members just before introducing themselves to the campers:
And, just like that, camp was off and running. Everyone immediately broke the ice by taking part in, well, ice-breaker games.
That’s a picture of a game our junior high boys counselor Josh Clemens so aptly titled the “piggy back try to tear the tape off of other peoples’ backs” game. You can pretty well guess what the goal is.
After that it was time for some delectable, nourishing, scrumtrulescent (?) pizza made possible in part by our resident pizza chef and senior high boys counselor Phil Huldeen. Mmm, mmm.
Following games and food we heard the first part in a series from Fr. David Rucker involving Papua/New Guinea, thievery, and pineapples. He used a wonderful teaching device that required asking ourselves the question, “what is my pineapple garden?” You’ll have to ask a camper to expound on the subject if you want to know more.
What a great first day and night at Summer Camp 2007! More to come…
Congratulations Staffers! Another year of camp is underway. I love how you’ve incorporated the “feel” of camp into the conversational style of posting. Keep up the great work, and wish I could be there with you all. Next year!
